Aşıklar Yolu in Muğla: A Summer Route Joining Aegean and Med

Aşıklar Yolu in Muğla offers hundreds of shades of green and blue. Notes on the route we have driven or ridden every summer for the past three years.

What lovely roads, what lovely nature: hundreds of shades of green and blue. Aşıklar Yolu (“Lovers’ Road”) in Muğla is one of the routes we want to return to every summer.

Why ride or drive Aşıklar Yolu?

It is a beautiful route that joins the Mediterranean and the Aegean, and in our view it belongs in every summer plan. We have done it without a break for the past three years, by car or by motorcycle, whenever we found the chance. We are still missing a camper van; maybe one day.

Muğla is one of the provinces where Turkey’s two seas meet, and in this landscape of coves, pine forests and foothills every bend reveals another green and another blue.

Two lovers on the Lovers’ Road

The name explains itself. The photos of the two of us on Aşıklar Yolu show best what the route means to us. We shared one of them in springtime, and we came back again in summer, because this road does not belong to a single season.

What else is nearby?

Muğla has many stops close together, including Marmaris and Turunç, the Datça peninsula and Akyaka. For a longer Aegean to Mediterranean line, our 7,000 km motorcycle tour runs from Istanbul to Kemer. We post the finer details of our routes in Instagram stories and then pin them to our profile.

Riding notes

On winding coastal and mountain roads, rhythm is everything. Look through the bend towards the exit, stop in a safe pocket for photos rather than in the middle of the road, and notice fatigue and thirst early in summer heat.

If you would rather ride with a group, Educated Moto Riders runs motorcycle tours and trips, and Rider Healthcare and Galata Healthcare products were part of our summer bag.
