When people say Bodrum, they often picture crowded beaches. For us, one moment comes to mind instead: the sunset at Gümüşlük.
What was the sunset at Gümüşlük like?
We can sum it up in a few words: pleasure, peace, a view, conversation, happiness and love. We loved it so much that it was hard not to. Photos never quite capture the feeling, but we tried. If you find yourself in Bodrum, set aside one evening for Gümüşlük and plan to arrive in time for the sunset.
What is Gümüşlük known for?
Gümüşlük is a quiet coastal settlement at the western end of the Bodrum Peninsula, built around a small bay. It stands on the site of the ancient city of Myndos, and remains along the shore carry traces of that past. A small island in front of the bay is part of the view, and the town is also known for the fish restaurants lined along its waterfront.
A little about Bodrum’s history
Bodrum sits on the site of ancient Halicarnassus, the birthplace of the historian Herodotus and the home of the Mausoleum, counted among the Seven Wonders of the World. Today the town’s landmark is Bodrum Castle, built by the Knights of St John, which houses the Museum of Underwater Archaeology.
For the sake of a sunset like this, we also carry a few things along. Rider Healthcare and Galata Healthcare, brands founded by Doruk, can easily travel in the bag, and Educated Moto Riders offers trips and motorcycle tours.
