From 20.08.2016 to 20.08.2025: nine years. We marked our ninth wedding anniversary with a photo taken in Brussels that reminds us of love, and stepped into the tenth year with a hopeful “God willing”. That is why Brussels is more than a city to us; it is a separate page in our memory book.
What stands out in Brussels?
A city in the heart of Europe, Brussels wins people over with its historic squares, a culture that runs from chocolate to lace-making and the Grand Place, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Modern and traditional meet here. It is the capital of Belgium and a major centre of European Union institutions, and French and Flemish are spoken side by side.
Where do you eat in Brussels?
Chez Léon, open in the heart of the city since 1893, is one of Brussels’ best-known restaurants. It serves Belgium’s classic pairing of mussels and fries, moules-frites, in its most authentic form.
Why was our anniversary in Brussels meaningful?
Nine years pass quickly. In our post we wrote that years go by fast and we should value the people we love. We wished for many more years of shared memories with happiness, health, peace, love and respect. For couples, the city makes a lovely backdrop for turning a celebration into a memory.
Where does Brussels fit in our Belgium series?
Brussels was the first part of our Belgium series. Next are Ghent, Bruges and Antwerp, all in the same country and each with its own character. A good plan for a couple’s day is to start around the Grand Place, enjoy a Belgian classic for lunch or dinner and wander the streets without hurry.
