We love Dalyan for a simple reason: it is a small place and it is not crowded. It is less busy than the better-known resorts, yet its nature and sea are wonderful and there is plenty to see.
What can you do in Dalyan?
Boat trips take you to bays, the shoreline and historic sites. The royal tombs and Iztuzu beach are two of the highlights. Nature, sea and history sit side by side here, and for such a small place the number of things to see is surprising.
Dalyan lies in Muğla on the river that links Lake Köyceğiz to the sea, with reeds on both banks. Rock-cut Lycian tombs on the far bank are the symbol of the town, and the ancient city of Kaunos is nearby. Iztuzu is the long beach where the river meets the sea, and it is known as a nesting ground of loggerhead sea turtles, so treat it with respect.
Where to watch the sunset in Dalyan
We stayed at Dalyan Ekin Kır Evi, a place we love. We watched the sunset change over time: the beauty of the view, the warm orange that heated our hearts and a sky that grew even more orange. Peace, happiness, calm, silence and a feast for the eyes.
Why go to Dalyan?
Because it is away from the crowds and close to nature. Being small is sometimes the biggest advantage. If you are exploring the Muğla coast, our notes on Marmaris are a natural next step.
