Reeds, a lake, birds and clouds: each adds its own flavour. Danamandıra Nature Park is close to Istanbul, yet it feels far from the city. Our caption said it simply: being in nature is always the most enjoyable thing.
What can you do at Danamandıra Nature Park?
The park is large enough for a day trip, a picnic, some exploring and a nature walk. The lake and the reeds, combined with the wind, make a real visual feast. You can walk along a wooden pier, pass through the reeds and reach the lake. We went in autumn, and the nature and its colours were wonderful.
Is entry paid, and can you leave and come back?
Because it is a national park, entry is paid. Once you have paid, however, you can leave during the day and return. We used that to do some shopping in the nearby village centre before going back in.
Good to know
- There are plenty of friendly dogs in the park. If you want to feed them, bring something along.
- It is a good place for a picnic.
- Wetlands like this are rich habitats, so walk quietly, stay on the pier and leave no litter.
A day out in nature near the city
If you like short escapes from Istanbul, we also wrote about the Çatalca coast by motorcycle. Rider Healthcare socks and Galata Healthcare products can fit into a walking-day bag, and Educated Moto Riders offers trips if you prefer to explore with a group.
