Datça Travel Guide: Old Datça, Datça Vineyard and Knidos

Stone streets, bougainvillea, Can Yücel's traces, almond trees and Datça Vineyard: notes from our motorcycle trips to Datça, a place on our route every year.

“If you are in a hurry, what are you doing in Datça?” This saying sums up the rhythm of the place. Stone streets, time slowing down in the shade of bougainvillea and cats appearing from every corner. For us Datça is a habit: every year, some part of our holiday route belongs to Datça.

Where is Datça and why do we go?

Datça lies in Muğla on a long peninsula where the Aegean and the Mediterranean meet. Its nature, its sea, its bays, Old Datça and the almond trees make a pull that we feel between us every year.

What is there to do in Old Datça?

Old Datça is a burst of colour with stone-walled streets and houses covered in flowers. Every corner tells its own story. Behind the stone walls stands the house of a poet, and the traces of Can Yücel still live on in streets, walls and verses. We spent our time resting in sweet cafés and walking the streets, and it was perfect.

What about Datça Vineyard and Knidos?

Datça Vineyard is one of our favourite places: calm, quiet, slightly windy and magical close to sunset. On our last big motorcycle trip of one year we arranged everything to get there before sunset, but could not get a table that evening, so our minds stayed there. After Datça Vineyard we went to Knidos, an ancient port city at the tip of the peninsula.

A morning and an evening in Datça

When we are in Datça, we get up early and walk the shore while nobody is around. In the evenings the seafront is lively and you can stroll and have an ice cream. It is not big, but it is a friendly centre.

For the road, Rider Healthcare and Galata Healthcare products can join a motorcycle bag, and Educated Moto Riders offers motorcycle tours and trips.
