You tour Gökçeada for two days, but hundreds of memories stay behind. We first went by motorcycle during a fast tour of islands, and after a good time we kept planning to return. In May 2025 we were on the road again.
What is Gökçeada?
Gökçeada, formerly Imbros, is an island in the northern Aegean belonging to Çanakkale. Its stone villages such as Tepeköy and Zeytinliköy still carry traces of their old Greek village past, and wind is part of the island’s character, so it pays to check the weather before you go.
How do you get there with a motorcycle?
Motorcycles do not need online tickets. Ferries run every day, but check the weather. We recommend going at the start or end of the season.
What is worth seeing?
There are many villages and bays, and a loop around the island takes about an hour.
- Tepeköy and the historic Çınaraltı Pınarbaşı: a favourite with wonderful views. A tiny seasonal café sells tea, coffee and soda.
- Zeytinliköy: slip off the busy streets to find narrow stone lanes, stone houses, nature and history. Try dibek coffee.
- Laz Bay: we filmed a video here in May 2025.
Where do you eat?
We ate at İmroz Poseidon Restaurant in Kaleköy. We went around 13:30 when nobody was there and loved the daytime view so much that we booked for the evening too, which has a completely different atmosphere. Book ahead for evenings. The corner under the tree with colourful papers is superb for sunset.
Riding notes
Wind can push a motorcycle in open coastal stretches, so set your speed before bends, keep a relaxed grip and take care in narrow village streets. Rider Healthcare and Galata Healthcare products came with us, and Educated Moto Riders offers island and road trips.
