Some roads in Switzerland make you say, “these roads are only the beginning.” In June 2023 we dove into that beginning on a BMW GS 1250 Adventure.
What is it like to ride the Swiss Alps?
Every corner of Switzerland kept enchanting us: wonderful nature, vivid colours, quiet villages and few but sincere people. It is a country that brings peace. We rode beautiful routes, crossed huge mountains and stopped in tiny, lovely villages.
What did we see at Oberalp Pass and Andermatt?
At Oberalp Pass we watched cows whose bells we love. Oberalp Pass runs between Andermatt and Sedrun, and the Andermatt area is known as a meeting point of famous Alpine passes. The cows were one of the sweetest frames of the ride, though animals near the road are a reason to slow down.
What is the Geneva to Interlaken road like?
Full of beautiful mountain roads. We crossed huge mountains and stopped in small villages. Geneva sits on Lake Geneva in the west, and Interlaken lies in the heart of the Alps.
What is Interlaken?
Interlaken literally means “between the lakes”. Lake Thun lies on one side and Lake Brienz on the other, the Aare river runs through, and the town is ringed by the Alps. The town and the villages around it make you ask, “is there really a place like this?”
Riding notes
On Alpine roads, surface and weather keep changing. Check the season and conditions before setting out, use engine braking on long descents, slow down for animals, and keep your eyes through the bend.
