Can you follow the trail of flamenco, horses and sherry in a single city? In Jerez de la Frontera you can. We went as part of our Andalusian dream and came back having witnessed a historic moment too.
Where is Jerez and why go?
Jerez is in the Andalusia region of Spain, and in our notes it is one of the most characterful cities in Andalusia. It is known as the birthplace of flamenco, horse riding and the world-famous sherry wines. The English word sherry comes from the city’s old name, Xérès. With its narrow streets, white houses and squares that smell of history, the city feels like a stage where past and present meet.
Jerez Cathedral
If we had to choose one place in the city, we would start with the cathedral. It was built in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and carries an impressive mix of Gothic, Baroque and Neoclassical architecture. Inside are the famous fifteenth-century Cristo de la Viga cross and valuable works of art. The cathedral stands on the site of a former large mosque, and at sunset its stone facades turn golden.
Motorsport at Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto
Jerez is also a famous name among motorsport fans. We were there and witnessed a moment we will not forget: one of the fateful moments of the 2025 season took place at Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto in Spain. Toprak Razgatlıoğlu did not give up despite a crash, took the title and won his third World Superbike championship. Witnessing it was a magnificent moment for us, and we are proud.
For a day on foot or at the track, Rider Healthcare and Galata Healthcare products can be added to the bag, and Educated Moto Riders offers motorcycle tours, trips and advanced and safe riding training. You can also read our guides to Seville, Córdoba and Granada to extend your Andalusian route.
