Milan Travel Guide: A 3-Day Plan and a Day at Lake Como

We explored Milan on foot: the Duomo, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Naviglio aperitivos, Brera and a day trip to Lake Como, a short train ride away.

When you travel to Milan, add at least one more day to your trip. The reason is definitely Lake Como.

What did we do on the first day in Milan?

The first day of our March 2023 trip was a classic route: the magnificent Duomo, the one-of-a-kind Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the Naviglio district famous for its canal-side aperitivos, and pasta, parmesan, pizza and ice cream. That is Italy. The Duomo is a huge Gothic cathedral whose construction went on for centuries, and the Galleria next to it is a glass-roofed nineteenth-century arcade.

How many days does Milan need?

Milan is a city that fits about three days, though it depends on your pace and on how much you want to see. We went everywhere on foot and saw everything we wanted, taking lots of photos and videos. On our second day we were around Brera, a district known for its art and cobbled streets.

Can you visit Lake Como as a day trip?

Yes. From Milano Centrale station you can take an affordable ticket to Como S. Giovanni and be there in about 40 minutes, for a day trip or an overnight stay. The lake is beautiful and grand; many famous people are said to have a villa on its shores, and it offers different beauty in every season. Its nature, streets, small shops, villas and gardens give the lake and its surroundings a flavour of their own, and towns such as Bellagio and Varenna can be added to the list.

For walking days, Rider Healthcare socks and a Galata Healthcare capsule can join your bag, and Educated Moto Riders offers trips for those who want to explore on a programme.
