Paris Travel Guide: Eiffel Tower, the Seine and Hôtel de Ville

Our first day in Paris: the Eiffel Tower from Trocadéro, Les Invalides, a winter evening by the Seine and the December lights of Hôtel de Ville.

Wherever you turn your head in Paris, something perfectly beautiful appears. We were always stuck in the same dilemma: take more photos, or move faster? When there are many places you want to see, you have to be quick.

How did our first day in Paris go?

We did not want to start our tour without seeing the Eiffel Tower, so we greeted it from Trocadéro, and the exploration went on with Les Invalides and other stops. To be honest, the plan for the first day was too much.

What should you know about the Eiffel Tower?

It was built as the entrance arch of the 1889 Expo for the centenary of the French Revolution. It is 324 metres tall and has three observation decks, reached by stairs and lifts up to the second level and by lift only to the third. Many people at the time thought it did not suit the city and wanted it torn down, yet it survived. It took 3,000 workers 2 years and 2 months to build, and it is named after the firm, not the architect.

Where to go in the evening?

Our best evening was cold but sparkling enough to warm you: the Seine, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Café de Flore and a cup of hot chocolate. At Hôtel de Ville, the Paris city hall, we fell in love at first sight in December 2022, and we did not even add music to the video so that you could feel the spirit of the moment.

Does Paris suit winter?

In our view, yes. From above it looks like just buildings, but walking its streets is a different pleasure: the gardens, the streets, the beauty of the buildings and the irresistible charm of everywhere. For cold city days, Rider Healthcare socks and a Galata Healthcare hot drink sachet can be added to the bag, and Educated Moto Riders offers trips for those who like to explore cities as a route.
