At the Tower of Pisa we struck the famous poses like everyone else. But the feeling we had in the villages of Tuscany became one of the most enjoyable parts of our tour.
What should you know about the Tower of Pisa?
The symbol of Pisa is one of Italy’s world-famous structures, 56 metres tall. It was built straight, but the unsuitable ground made it start to lean, and it reached its present shape. You can climb to the top by buying a ticket and taking a staircase of 294 steps. This stop was part of our June 2023 motorcycle tour on a BMW GS 1250 Adventure.
Pisa lies in Tuscany on the Arno River. The tower is in fact a bell tower, standing in the same square as the Cathedral and the Baptistery, and the square is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Pisa is also known as the birthplace of Galileo Galilei.
What can you do in Tuscany?
Tuscany and its villages were among the most enjoyable places of the tour. Everywhere we could go and see looked like a fairytale:
- Lush green nature
- Vineyards
- Cypress trees
- The scent of earth
- Historic castles
- Sweet stone houses
Tuscany is known for Florence, Siena, Chianti wine, olive oil and hill towns. We rode through the village side of this picture.
Riding in Tuscany
Take it easy on bends and hill roads and enter narrow village streets slowly. Educated Moto Riders offers motorcycle tours and trips for those who prefer to ride such routes in a group.
