Some cities have beautiful views, and some touch your heart. Ronda does both.
What is there to see in Ronda?
Ronda sits among the mountains of Andalusia, built on top of rocky cliffs, as if suspended between sky and earth. The deep El Tajo gorge splits the city in two, and the centuries-old stone bridge Puente Nuevo joins the two sides. On one side are the bridge and the gorge, on the other white houses, narrow streets and the Andalusian sun. When we say it looks like it stepped out of a postcard, we are not exaggerating.
What is Ronda known for?
Besides the gorge and the bridge, which was completed in the eighteenth century, Ronda is described as home to the oldest bullring in Spain. The city also sits in the Andalusian hill country, among the small settlements known as white villages. It was under Muslim rule for a long time before passing to the Christian kingdoms in 1485.
An evening walk in the old town
We did not have much time, yet after the valley view we caught a romantic moment in the back streets of the old town in the last light of the day. Some moments turn into perfect memories through the magic of the moment and the presence of the person beside you, and that evening in Ronda was one of them. You will find narrow stone streets, whitewashed houses, flowery balconies, orange trees and small squares, and every corner whispers the warm and passionate spirit of Andalusia.
How much time does Ronda need?
Even with little time you will not leave empty-handed: the valley view and an evening walk in the old town are enough. With more time, give the cliffside views and the slow-moving hours a bit more of your day.
For a day on your feet we carried Rider Healthcare socks; a Galata Healthcare capsule can be added to the bag; and Educated Moto Riders offers motorcycle tours and trips for those who want to ride Andalusia’s mountain roads.
