Sapanca and Çatalkaya Valley: A Quiet Escape Near Istanbul

Çatalkaya Valley and Lake Sapanca near Istanbul: a bridge, a stream, silence in autumn, snow in winter, and seagulls on the lake in every season.

We had been planning far-away trips for a while but could not escape our busy schedule. If we cannot go somewhere, we go somewhere else! We discover nearby places far better at such times. Living in Istanbul, the city and its surroundings are our criteria, and in any case there is no part of our country that is not beautiful. Wherever you are, there is a lovely place nearby.

What is in Çatalkaya Valley?

Çatalkaya Valley is a place we found that way, and it lies in Sapanca. Its beautiful nature, silence, bridge, stream, wonderful view and fresh air took us far from city life. When we went, there was nobody and nothing around, which suited us. It is a good choice for anyone who wants to be one with nature.

What is the valley like in winter?

We also went in winter. Under snow it has a pure white, enchanting atmosphere: untouched nature, clean fresh air, and a day that felt like it was ours alone.

What is Sapanca known for?

Sapanca is in Sakarya, east of Istanbul, and takes its name from the lake beside it. Lake Sapanca, with the green hills and forests around it, is a well-known getaway close to Istanbul. We go often. There were so many seagulls on the lake, and the scenes created while they were being fed were beautiful. If you get the timing right, it is a calm and lovely place.

When should you go?

Any season. Sapanca and its surroundings are worth seeing all year round, and being close makes it easy to plan a route. Educated Moto Riders offers trips for those who like to experience short getaways with a group.
