Uludağ Ski Resort Guide: Zone 1 vs Zone 2 Explained

A short Uludağ ski guide from skiers who go almost every year: the difference between Zone 1 and Zone 2, how the ski pass works and why we ski on weekdays.

Since we started skiing, Uludağ has been a place we return to almost every year, and we enjoy it every time. That season we added it to our plans again, as long as it was on a weekday.

It is a well-known, large resort and it is close to cities like Istanbul. The large number of pistes gives options to beginners as well as intermediate and advanced skiers. The mountain rises above Bursa and is a national park; Bursa itself is worth a visit for its historic mosques and tombs and for its famous local food.

What is the difference between Zone 1 and Zone 2?

  • Zone 1: the first hotel area. It has easier, beginner to intermediate pistes. It is usually more crowded than Zone 2 and is also a place where non-skiers walk around and have fun.
  • Zone 2: newer hotels. The pistes are somewhat harder, longer, wider and very enjoyable.

Chairlifts and drag lifts connect the two zones, but the area is large and you may need to cross more than once. So it helps to plan each day around one zone.

How does the Uludağ ski pass work?

The pass is valid on every chairlift and in both zones. When we went, the daily pass cost 250 TL. A discount applies as the number of days grows, and buying online can be cheaper than the regular price.

Staying safe on the slopes

Wear a helmet, stay on pistes that match your level, take breaks when tired and give other skiers space. Check weather and piste conditions before setting out, and expect possible ice on mountain roads in winter.

For cold days, Rider Healthcare makes a cashmere sock with silver yarn, and Galata Healthcare offers a hot-drink sachet with vitamin C, zinc, echinacea, ginger and B vitamins. Educated Moto Riders organises winter trips for those who prefer to travel in a group.
